Introducing AliPay and WeChat Pay for EasyPark

Motion Pay partners with EasyPark to offer Chinese-currency payment services

EasyPark in providing motorists in Vancouver with a convenient new payment option for parking.
Chinese can now access their Alipay and WeChat Pay accounts in Canada. Payments are done via Motion Pay Technology Inc.’s fully-integrated and secure platform, which converts the RMB funds to Canadian dollars.

This new initiative means that EasyPark is the first parking company in British Colombia to offer this Motion Pay service. It has introduced the new payment service at its attended sites in Vancouver. EasyPark has plans to extend Wechat Pay and Alipay to all their Vancouver locations, including high-volume tourist centres like Stanley Park, Queen Elizabeth Park and Jericho Beach.

Founded in 1947, EasyPark’s mission is to “make parking easy”, and its mandate is to provide safe, convenient and affordable parking for customers. Today, its operations include more than 135 parking facilities throughout British Columbia, under the EasyPark brand.

The company has always been a leader in using technology to make parking more convenient for its customers. In 2011, EasyPark launched the first parking app for the Apple and Android markets. Two years later, the EasyPark FlexPass made its debut, allowing people who only drive occasionally to park at a discount instead of the regular hourly rate.

“Chinese tourists, business people and residents are a growing presence in Vancouver and B.C. and, as motorists, they are seeking our simpler, straightforward parking solutions,” says EasyPark Chief Executive Officer Nigel Bullers. “Motion Pay adds another highly-convenient payment service for many of them.”

Ottawa-based fintech Motion Pay is the first Canadian company to have working partnerships with Alipay and WeChat Pay, the largest mobile payment providers in China. It serves hundereds of merchants — including EasyPark—  who can offer the point-of-sale China RMB payments in all major Canadian cities, from coast-to-coast.

“Our low-fee service scans the QR code in mobile phones, so payments can be made easily and safely through the hugely-popular WeChat Pay and Alipay apps,” says Eric Paquet, Motion Pay’s President and Chief Operating Officer.

Paquet adds, “It provides businesses like EasyPark with a turn-key payment solution and a big advantage attracting greater numbers of Chinese customers.”
